Serving Our Community

Great Crossing Baptist Church is in a growing and changing community. In 1988 the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Plant opened in Georgetown. This began an influx of people which has continued to bring new people into the area, even in the past few years. It is the desire and commitment of the Great Crossing Baptist Church to make a difference in the lives of as many of these new residents of the community as possible. We want to reach our neighbors and our world with the message of the Cross - the Gospel message which made possible our salvation and provides the only way to be reconciled to God and to get to heaven.

Our outreach, therefore, is intentional and focused. All of our community involvement is directly related to our Lord’s mandate in the Great Commission which is given in a number of places in the New Testament. One of these is Matthew 28:19-20: Here our Lord says “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Our church seeks to fulfill this commission locally and in our world.

Some of the community events include:

Fall Festival
A Fall Festival to which we invite the entire community.

Community Fish Fry

A Fish Fry to which the community is invited. This is held in the fall and is often coordinated with the beginning of a fall revival or series of evangelistic services.

No-Sale Garage Sale

A No-sale-Garage Sale held in the fall and spring to supply clothes to anyone who comes at no charge to them. These clothes are collected and stored between the events so that provision is made for any who are in need of clothing.

Joint Sunrise Service With A Nearby Church

Our church alternates with the Great Crossing Missionary Baptist Church in the Sunrise Service every Easter. We Host them every other year and their pastor, Reverend Lamont Jones preaches and we serve breakfast for the two churches. On the alternate year they host us and serve breakfast and our pastor, Reverend Ray Roach preaches. The choirs and singers of both churches provide music. This year (2009) is our year to host them.

Holy Week Community Services

A service held each day of Holy Week at noon with the other churches in the Scott County ecumenical community. We participate together with the other churches in this community worship.

Benevolence Fund
A fund is administered to respond to emergency needs within the community for food, utilities, and other basic needs.
